Iconic Western Event Returns to the 2024 State Fair of Texas

As the 100-day countdown to the State Fair of Texas begins, rodeo enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to this year at the historic Fair Park Coliseum in Dallas. The fair’s rodeo lineup promises an exciting array of events celebrating the heart and soul of Texas' rodeo culture.


A Spectacular Lineup of Events


Each weekend from Friday through Sunday, fairgoers can witness top-notch rodeo performances. The schedule includes the traditional State Fair of Texas Ranch Rodeo, the colorful Mexican Rodeo Fiesta, and for the first time, the Year-End Finale of the United Professional Rodeo Association (UPRA) in October. Here’s a preview of the rodeo events you won’t want to miss:


UPRA Big Tex Rodeo Series Championship

  • Dates: Friday, September 27 – Saturday, September 28

  • Time: 6:30 PM

  • Details: The rodeo season starts with the UPRA Championship, featuring elite cowboys and cowgirls competing for top honors.


State Fair of Texas Youth Rodeo Finals

  • Date: Sunday, September 29

  • Details: Future rodeo stars take the stage in the Youth Rodeo Finals, showcasing their budding talents.


State Fair of Texas Ranch Rodeo

  • Dates: Friday, October 4 – Saturday, October 5

  • Details: Experience the grit and determination of ranch-working cowboys and cowgirls with events like wild cow milking, maverick branding, and bucking horses.


Mexican Rodeo Fiesta

  • Details: Enjoy a vibrant Charro-style rodeo performance that celebrates Mexican rodeo traditions, wrapping up the opening weekend in style.


State Fair of Texas Presents Pro Rodeo Rough Stock Kickoff

  • Dates: Friday, October 11 – Saturday, October 12

  • Time: 6:30 PM

  • Details: Get ready for heart-pounding action with the Pro Rodeo Rough Stock Kickoff.


Cowboys of Color Rodeo

  • Date: Sunday, October 13

  • Time: 2:00 PM

  • Details: This event highlights the diversity in rodeo, featuring Black, Indigenous, and Latino riders. It promotes inclusivity and celebrates the rich heritage of all communities involved in the sport.


UPRA World Finals

  • Dates: Thursday, October 17 – Sunday, October 20

  • Time: 6:30 PM (Weekdays), 2:00 PM (Sunday)

  • Details: The rodeo season culminates with the UPRA World Finals, where professional cowboys and cowgirls compete over six performances, ending with a championship ceremony on the final Sunday.
